About YardageCalc
YardageCalc is built and maintained by a small team of quilters and sewists who got tired of doing fabric math by hand, and tired of getting a different answer from every store, pattern, and forum thread. So we built the calculators we wished existed: one place, standard industry conventions, no guessing.
YardageCalc is a small set of free calculators built to answer one specific, recurring question: how much fabric do I actually need to buy for this project? Fabric stores, patterns, and online advice often disagree or leave out the math, so these tools do the arithmetic for you using standard, published quilting and drapery industry conventions — the same overhang, piecing, and fullness-ratio rules experienced quilters and seamstresses already use, just automated.
How accurate are these calculators?
The math behind each calculator is documented on its own page and in our guides, and every calculator is covered by an automated test suite that checks its output against known, worked examples before anything goes live. These are still estimates, not guarantees — real-world factors like fabric shrinkage, cutting precision, and pattern-specific requirements can shift the exact number. We build in a sensible buffer by default and recommend rounding up and buying a little extra, which is standard advice from experienced quilters and sewists.
